Witch Hunt in Detroit
The politicians in Detroit are now charging Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick with multiple felonies, for lying in a civil trial about an affair he had. Seriously? Doesn’t the political establishment in the nation’s worst economy have anything better to do? Kwame may be a rogue and liar, but he’s practically a saint in comparison to Coleman Young.
These are strange times indeed. New York’s governor is black, blind, a drug user and an adulterer — a step up from a guy who paid (way too much) for sex. But being black and lying about your personal life in a civil trial disqualifies you from being even mayor of Detroit.

Mitch Album had an interesting article…

OK, here is my take. People not following the case might have taken the flame-baiting position that you have taken. Kwamee is hoping that his voters are so misled. But few informed people are buying it.
The case is about obstruction of justice, cover-up, and misuse of public money.
The mayor is charged with serious crimes…
1) firing 3 good cops because they were investigating his potential link to a murder case
2) telling several material lies under oath in the following whistle blower lawsuit (he is a lawyer, and he knows what purjery is)
3) trying to cover up the text messages that emerged, and spending $9 million of Detroit money on the cover-up. Money is so tight in Detroit that you will wait 2 hours for a cop if you need to call 911.
4) conspiracy to commit both above felonies, which is a big deal
He has also trampled on the public trust and ruined the life of his woman subordinate.
Finally, there is a fiction being perpetrated that telling a lie under oath in a civil case is not a crime. Bullocks!
Martha Stuart went to prison for lying to a federal agent, and she wasn’t even under oath at the time.

Yeah, like I said he is a liar and a rogue. I read all of the news about the firing and coverup and it looks like he is going down.
My point is that they need to take him down for real crimes if they can — it is disgusting to see the vultures going after him for lying about sexy text messages. It just makes it look like a total witch hunt. Which, BTW, the exact same when they called him a hypocrite for using the “N-word”. These people apparently have a long history of acrimony, and feel justified in such petty and tawdry attacks, but they just look like idiots from the outside. If he is such a bad apple, focus on what he did bad — not on some sexy text messages or some perfectly innocuous use of the “n-word”.
FWIW, I think Martha Stewart was victim of a witch-hunt, too.

Screw him, witchhunt my ass. If he wants to screw someone on the side fine. But to use his power and public money to cover it up? Get his ass out of there.

Perjury is a real crime. Ever since Clinton, people have been trying to excuse perjury if it has to do with sex. To my way of thinking a man who will lie to his wife (the person he’s supposed to love & respect more than anyone) will lie about everything & can’t be trusted. Not that I trust anyone in office, but it would be nice for a change.
Besides, this guy is a real peach. He had exotic dancers at his inaugueral party. Cops got called. Try to find that report! Disappeared into a puff of smoke.
As for Martha: If you got good info your stock was gonna tank, wouldn’t you jump on it? Of course you would. If that wasn’t against the law, she wouldn’t have had to lie. Still, a lie is a lie.
