DEA Mental Health Program

Via popdex; this article on LSD usage is fascinating. Apparently fewer kids are using LSD, and the ones who are, use less of it. This ought to make a dent in the incidence of bipolar disorder. The article claims that the drop after 2001 was due to a DEA bust of a single manufacturing operation, combined with the end of Grateful Dead and Phish tours.

The Slate article mentions Apperson and Pickard, who were convicted. Their co-conspirator, who got immunity for his testimony, set up residence in Seattle and was arrested at Burning Man last year for torture and kidnapping. It just goes to show that not everyone you meet at a rave can be trusted as a loving person who is open about relationships. Talk about a bad trip…

The article claims that the demand is inelastic, too, which I find hard to believe. They cite raised price as evidence, but there are other possible reasons for that. The numbers show that less of the stuff is getting consumed, and it’s generally not a substance that inspires dramatic loyalty.
