Seattle is pretty cool on the 4th. Fireworks are mostly illegal to buy or use here, but everyone seems to get their hands on the heavy artillery anyway, and the sky is lit up unlike any other place I’ve ever seen, with mortars and blooms in every corner of the sky. Most of the fireworks are only legal to sell or detonate on the Indian reservations.

I was wondering when our government would realize that the “oops!” effect is useful in more places than just Afghanistan. As long as you’ve got a jet up in the sky and can point to something that looks like muzzle fire, nobody can blame you for “accidentally” bombing a few people you really don’t like too much. Now the papers are reporting that we’ll have jets patrolling the skieson the evening of the 4th. I suggest that enemies of the current administration stay far away from anything that might look like muzzle fire from the sky, like … fireworks.
