brittle

Brittle - With all of that talk about Excite@Home going bankrupt, I never realized that AT&T was providing my Internet service through Excite@Home. My connection was down all day yesterday, and now that the service has been switched over to an AT&T domain, the DNS randomly returns wrong addresses for pages. This is pretty rotton service.

Today I am bracing to be locked out of corporate VPN service as well. My access is through a smart card now, so that means I have to have the smart card with me whenever I VPN in. Tonight at midnight is supposedly when the system will start enforcing this restriction. My first taste of inconvenience from the smart card was when I tried to buy lunch the day after getting the chip embedded in my smart card. The balance on my card hadn’t transferred over like they said it would, and I didn’t have any cash in my pocket. And I had decided that day to eat at a cafeteria that didn’t have an ATM machine.

And as of yesterday, my ATM card doesn’t work anyway. The “11/01″ stamped on the card must have something to do with it. I guess I have to go get a new one.

Too bad we can’t just throw away all of our cards, keys, licenses, and other tokens of identity. I would much rather just have a retina scan do everything.
